The “ESG Group Project” is a group report and presentation that will be scored out of 20 points and worth 20 % of your final grade. (Group Assignment) This project is designed to engage students in a dynamic exploration of Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility and ESG Dilemmas within a chosen sector, such as Fast Fashion, Coffee, Banking, Mining, Chocolate, Extractive Resources, Automotive, Technology etc. Students will showcase their findings and insights through an interactive presentation and report. This assignment provides students with a platform to showcase their understanding of sustainability challenges and corporate social responsibility in a concise and impactful manner. The emphasis is on effective communication and the ability to engage an audience with compelling insights and recommendations. Project Scope: Topic Selection: o To choose three corporations each from a different sector of the economy (for example: fashion, mining, banking, coffee, manufacturing, real estate, etc. o Review the corporation, website: to determine definition or position on ESG and to discuss what practices, policies and/codes are in place; o Highlight one of the “Dilemmas to ESG that are most prominent in each of the companies (for example Sustainability, Social Responsibility, Human Rights, Poverty, Environment & Climate Change, Corruption, etc.) and the action to implement change for the better? o Provide specific examples of what the company does for each of the responses that you highlight. Research and Analysis: o Conduct research to understand the chosen dilemma’s impact on the selected sector; o Analyze the sustainability and social responsibility initiatives of three companies within the chosen sector. Ideally the three companies have varying levels of success and impact. Presentation Development: o Create an engaging and visually appealing presentation summarizing key aspects of the chosen Sustainability and Corporate Social Dilemma; o Include relevant data, visualizations, and case studies to support key points. 1 Principles of Sustainability and Social Responsibility ESG Group Project Report Development o Create an engaging and visually appealing report summarizing key aspects of the chosen Sustainability and Corporate Social Dilemma; o Include relevant data, graphs, visualizations, and case studies to support key points. Comparative Insights: o Provide insights into how the three different companies within the chosen sector address the identified dilemma; o Which elements from the different ESG reports are similar between different companies and sectors. Where can you draw a similarity? Which elements are very different between the different companies and sectors. Can you demonstrate this by using examples? In other words, compare and contrast. o Conduct a comparative analysis by spotlighting different ways that the companies in your chosen sector are dealing with the chosen dilemma. Share specific examples and lessons learned, such as successful strategies or challenges faced, to help your audience understand the practical side of these approaches. Critical Thinking: o Open-mindedness and skepticism are crucial for students to evaluate diverse viewpoints critically without bias and question sources effectively. Reflective thinking aids in continuous growth by allowing students to assess their own reasoning and learn from mistakes. o Encouraging an interdisciplinary perspective toward the multiple topics seen in class enhances students’ ability to solve complex problems by integrating knowledge from various topics. o Ethical considerations prompt students to analyze the moral implications of their actions and decisions, fostering ethical awareness in critical thinking. Recommendations: o Suggest practical and doable actions for each company to improve how it contributes to sustainability and social responsibility. Your recommendations should be specific actions that the company can take to make a positive impact; o Ensure recommendations are practical and aligned with industry standards. Format Report & Presentation Requirements ● Title Slide/Page: o Title of the Presentation: “Exploring Sustainability, CSR and ESG in [Chosen companies]”; o Group Members’ Names; o Date. 2 Principles of Sustainability and Social Responsibility ESG Group Project ● Introduction: o Brief overview of the project purpose and objectives; o Introduce the chosen Sustainability, CSR and ESG Dilemma and its significance in the selected sectors. ● Topic Selection and Company Overview: o Briefly explain the selected Sustainability, CSR and ESG Dilemma ((for example Sustainability, Social Responsibility, Human Rights, Poverty, Environment & Climate Change, Corruption, etc.); o Provide an overview of the chosen sectors and organizations; o Briefly introduce the three companies investigated in the first report. ● Research and Analysis: o Highlight the impact of the chosen dilemma on the selected sector; o Summarize key findings from the analysis of sustainability and social responsibility initiatives of the three chosen companies. ● Comparative Insights: o Insights into how the three companies address the identified dilemma. Ideally these are different and with varying levels of success; o Use visuals to compare and contrast the approaches of each company. ● Case Studies: o Showcase specific examples and lessons learned from each company’s initiatives; o Use case studies, anecdotes, or visuals to illustrate practical aspects. ● Recommendations: o Practical and doable actions for each company to improve sustainability and social responsibility; o Ensure recommendations align with industry standards. ● Conclusion: o Summarize key insights and recommendations; o Thank the audience for their time and attention. ● References: o List any references used in the presentation (A.P.A Style).
