Are the use of smart phones, including phone-based social media apps, increasing anxiety and leading to political radicalism? There is a pretty animated debate over whether smart phones have lead to population-wide increases in anxiety and depression, which could lead to the adoption of radical political ideas. Tackle this question and argue whether or not you think that smart phones have become a social and political problem.
Obviously, you could head in many different directions when answering these questions. Make choices. Provide qualifications. Do what you want. Anything is fair game. But answer the question, make a claim, and support your claim with premises or propositions for which you think there is strong backing.
750 words is not a lot, and the speech will not be long. In this speech you will probably have the space to make three solid arguments that each work to support your overall claim. Use what you’ve learned in class to do this as effectively as you can.
