Description

When students in the Fall 2-19 Drama for Development class were asked what comes into their minds
when Africa is mentioned they gave a wide range of responses including positive and negative
attributes. At the top of the negative list were: Poverty Poor healthcare – Diseases Lack of education
Lack of water Wars and animals everywhere. To counteract the stereotypes that media continually tells
the world about Africa, the video, Africa Straight Up delivers facts about Africa. The TED talk by
acclaimed Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi, ‘The Danger of a Single Story’ also enlightens people
about stereotypes. Discuss how the two videos counteract the stereotypes media and a majority of
people have about Africa, by highlighting five of the positive facts about Africa. Write a paper that is at
least two pages, Times New Roman 12-point font double spaced. Do not copy and paste anything from
the internet. Strictly make reference to the two videos you watched in class. Let the reader of your
paper clearly ‘hear your voice’ in the lines of your paper!
