- In his Confessions, Jean-Jacques Rousseau depicts himself as a unique individual whose childhood experiences and strong passions are often not in line with the dictates of logic.
Describe the value of text in Confessions: identify the qualities that Rousseau gives writing in his book, and examine any moments where Rousseau points to his own act of writing.
- William Blake, in his “Chimney Sweeper” poems, uses the voices of child workers in response to the terrible, dangerous child labor practices of the late eighteenth century. How effective is the use of children’s voices in these poems?
Purposes of the Assignment. This assignment should give you a chance to do a cultural analysis of the late 18th century and the 19th century literatures. It is an opportunity, for you, to use writing to help you understand and interpret the deplorable conditions of slaves, and the sufferings of working class in America.
