The final paper focuses on the topics of week 8-13, specifically around the idea of policy. During the last six weeks, we have examined the issues and policies around low resourced schools, privatization, militarization, inequality (language can be included), conflict and peacebuilding, teacher professionalism and social movements. In 1,500- 1,700 words, please discuss the policy approaches for two issues.

For each issue, you need to address both 1 and 2:

1). Describing the policy(s) for your issue: What types of policies have been implemented to address the issue? How did/does this policy impact schools and people in schools? Who implemented them? How were they implemented? What were/are the outcomes from this policy?

* For each issue, in describing and summarizing the policies you are expected to utilize a minimum of 3 class readings/podcasts/videos, as well as draw from lectures and discussion sections.

2). Analyzing the policy approach: What can we learn from the policy approach? In your opinion, why did/didn’t this work? What types of policies could/should be implemented to produce a better outcome? Could this type of policy be implemented in different contexts?

For example, say you choose privatization of schools as one of the issues you want to address. First, describe, using and integrating the course materials, what policy approaches have been implemented (where, when, by who)? How did it impact education? (how did it positively or negatively affect schools, teachers, children?) Second, analyze this policy (what do you think about this policy and why do you think this way?) What should policymakers learn from this policy example and why is it important that we learn this?
