Assignment Questions
1. Please list the year in which the chosen composer was born and the year in which
they died. Also, please list their country of birth. (3 points)

2. Please list the time period in which your chosen composer was alive. Here are your
choices. (1 point)
Renaissance: 1400-1600
Baroque: 1600-1750
Classical: 1750-1820
Romantic: 1820-1900
Modern: 1900-present

3. Define the genre of opera. As before I suggest using the Vocabulary Quiz Study Guide
link to Dolmetsch. (4 points)
4. Discuss the story upon which your chosen opera was based. Just 3-4 sentences
describing the most important aspects are all that is necessary. Then list the number
of "acts" the opera contains. These are very similar to the sections called "movements"
in your previous assignments. There is no need to list or define the acts however.
Please just say the total number. (4 points)
5. Finally, define the term "Libretto" as it pertains to an opera. Then name the person
who was the Librettist for your chosen opera. This term, and the person who represents
this term, are extremely important to all operas. (2 points)
