By now, you should realize that the promotion “P” (among the 4 Ps) is part of the “art of marketing,” but that it takes a process referred to as the “science of marketing” to create great advertising campaigns. See The Marketing Framework in various virtual lectures for a diagram of how superior marketing results from a scientific process that is completed by a “positioning” statement (or strategy). The positioning statement informs the 4Ps, especially promotion.
TV commercials are the most expensive form of advertising. They are expensive to make and the media costs are even higher. Watch and analyze the three commercials attached, then answer:
What target audience is each one addressing?
What POD (points of difference) is each commercial using to position against competing “solutions” (products)?
Which commercials do you think were successful in building sales and which were not? Why? (Your answer should refer back to what you’ve learned in the “science of marketing.”)
