Objective:
This project aims to research how using the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model can improve information technology infrastructure. Students will apply the SDLC phases to the problem and create a data flow diagram to illustrate the solution.
Project Deliverables:
- Problem Identification: Conduct research to identify a specific problem that can be managed and improved through the SDLC. Clearly describe:
- The problem
- Its impact on an organization
- The importance of finding a solution
The research will be conducted by using the SFC Library databases to find relevant sources of information at library.sfc.edu
Hint: Using the SFC Library website, search for SDLC and related terms. Find articles where the SDLC can help improve technology infrastructure.
- SDLC Analysis: Apply the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) model to the identified problem. Break down the problem-solving process into the following SDLC phases (although you can also use the phases your textbook reviews, you only need to utilize the phases outlined below):
a) Planning and Requirements Gathering: What is the organization trying to do? How would solving this issue improve the organization? How would an organization gather all information about the problem needing resolution?
b) Analyzing System Needs: Use a data flow diagram (DFD) to illustrate the current system used (the one that will need to be improved or replaced). You can create a DFD based on the description of the system that needs to be improved or replaced, or the issue that needs to be resolved.
It is recommended that you use Word or PowerPoint to create the diagram, or any other tool that can effectively create the structure of a DFD can be used. Explain how the DFD can be improved through the implementation of the new system.
c) System Design: Describe the design of the new system proposed. Describe the human-computer interaction (HCI) of the new system and how it will improve the process that you’re examining.
d) System Testing: Explain how the system will be tested before it is implemented and used.
e) System Implementation: Explain a user training plan for users to handle the new system. Also explain a plan for transitioning from the old system to the new one.
f) Maintenance: Explain how the new system will be maintained.
This final project should be at least 5 pages long and utilize APA style. This means that it requires an APA-formatted cover page, in-text citations, and a reference list. The cover page and reference list cannot factor into this 5-page minimum.
Cite your sources using APA in-text citations and a reference list.
At least 6 references should be utilized.
