Description

We’ll be reading another classical Chinese philosopher, Xunzi (Hsün Tzu) Classical Primary Sources (P63-70). And also glance back at Julia Ching’s comparison of Mencius and Xunzi (Ching b, 362-5).  From there address both Puett & Gross-Loh and Xunzi’s own writings in Classical Primary Sources (63-70).  Topics for papers might include:

-human nature (good or evil?)

-self-acceptance

-Xunzi’s interpretation of ritual

-the role of “artifice”
