Objective:
This assignment aims to develop your analytical and critical thinking skills by exploring current trends in Maintenance or People Management. You will do this by researching a specific topic, evaluating different perspectives, and forming your viewpoint. The assignment also aims to enhance your report writing skills by presenting your findings concisely and structured.
Instructions:
- Topic Selection: Choose a current trend in Maintenance or People Management domain. This topic will be the focus of your assignment. Ensure that your chosen topic is unique. To avoid repetition, check the shared Excel sheet to see if your peers have selected your desired topic. Enter your chosen topic into the shared Excel sheet.
- Source Identification: Identify three credible sources that provide relevant information on your chosen topic. These can include reputable websites (e.g., Gartner, Fortune Technology, Medium.com), books, or academic journals (e.g., IEEE Xplore, Google Scholar, ACM Digital Library, etc.).
- Report Writing: Write a concise report (maximum 3 to 4 pages) on your chosen topic, summarising the information from your identified sources. Your report should be divided into four sections:
- Introduction: Briefly introduce your topic and its significance in the Software Industry.
- Analysis of Primary Source: Discuss and analyse the information provided by the author of your primary source. This should not be a verbatim summary but rather an interpretation of the author’s views.
- Comparative Analysis: Refer to your two additional sources to support or contrast the information from your primary source. This should present a more generalized view of the topic.
- Personal Viewpoint: After understanding the topic and considering different viewpoints, articulate your own perspective on the impacts of the topic on the software industry.
- Citation: Ensure to cite all sources from which you’ve drawn information in the appropriate sections. Include the links or names of your sources.
Important Notes:
- The points included in the report are expected to be technical and relevant to the chosen topic. Also, the links/names of the source are expected to be acknowledged in the appropriate sections.
- The students are requested to choose a topic and enter the topic in the shared Excel.
- There is an abundance of topics in both domains. Hence each student is expected to choose a unique topic. So, check everyone’s topic before entering yours in the shared Excel. If more than two students have the same topic, all who chose the topic will have to submit a new assignment.
- Your summary for two papers/articles can be something other than a copy-paste of your selected article’s paragraphs. Make sure that the summary is your own. We will check the report for plagiarism. If an assignment gets higher than 50%, then TA will reduce the points according to their discretion.
- Please do not submit an assignment copied or rehashed from another section’s or previous semester’s submission. You will get caught and get no points for that submission. You will not get another opportunity to resubmit, and we will take appropriate action based on the magnitude of your offense.
- Last but not least, submit it on time!
