Students will visit an organization, domestic violence court, or a Congressional hearing on a relevant topic (i.e. Violence Against Women Act) and write a
short paper (4 – 5 pages) discussing their experience.
In this paper you can discuss your entire experience making field observations. If you spoke with someone within an organization, courtroom, or at a hearing, that will be relevant to include.
Questions I asked an advocate at the court (Jordan)
1- How did you enter this career pathway? What is your educational background?
2- What does a typical day on the job look like for you?
4- What aspects of this job have proven to be the most challenging, and why?
5- What aspects of the job are the most rewarding, and why?
7- What advice do you have for people who would like to get involved in a career addressing/preventing/reducing domestic violence?
8- I know you can’t share details but what are some of the hardest cases you have dealt with?
9- How do you cope with the sadness that comes from your profession?
