US Government Research Paper Requirements

 

This assignment must be submitted through Canvas by clicking on the blue Submit Assignment button at the top of the page.

 

Format:

 

Four pages typewritten, but not more than seven.

12 pt. font, double spaced, with one-inch margins.

Use one tab to start new paragraphs.

Title page: Center the title halfway down the page. Capitalize important words on the title. Then double-­space (skip a line) and center the word “By” under the title. Double-­space again and center your name under the word “By”. In the lower right corner, put your teacher’s name, the course name, and the date.

At the top right of each following page, type your last name, hit the spacebar, and then type the page number.

Your topic must relate to the United States Government and must be approved by your teacher.

Please email Mr. Tatkenhorst through Canvas email your topic for approval.

The main purpose must be clearly stated in a Thesis Statement which is included in the first paragraph or two of your paper.

The research paper must be the unique work of the student. Plagiarized papers will result in an F, so make sure you include correct source citations, and summarize the content in your own words.

Sources:

 

Works Cited Page: Last page of your paper. At the top right, type your last name and the page number. Then double-­space and center the title: Works Cited. List your sources in alphabetical order according to the last name of the author.

Four sources are required. These sources should include books, periodicals, interviews, quality internet sources, etc. Wikipedia is not a legitimate source.

Citing sources means giving credit to others for facts, statistics, opinions, and ideas that you borrow from them. If you don’t give credit to others, you are guilty of plagiarism. Document everything EXCEPT your OWN ideas and information that is common knowledge that can be found in several sources. When in doubt, document.

 

Grading will be based on the following areas:

 

Presentability: How does the paper look to the reader? Does it look like the writer put adequate effort into the paper?

Content: Does the paper accomplish its purpose? The main purpose must be clearly stated in a Thesis Statement which is included in the first paragraph or two.

Grammar: Spelling and grammar mistakes must be kept to minimum, and too many mistakes will result in the paper being returned as unacceptable.

Citations: MLA style must be used correctly to cite research sources.
