Description
Here is an overview of what the teacher is looking for
The purpose of this exercise is for you to experience a cultural event that is not familiar to you. Students usually choose religious services or cultural celebrations, since they are frequent and easy to attend. If you are unsure if your event is appropriate, please ask!
If you are Christian, you could attend an Islamic Mosque or Jewish Synagogue. However, if you are Baptist, going to a Catholic Mass does not count (both are Christian). Be sure to call whenever you are going ahead of time in the event you need any instructions regarding your attendance. An example could be to visit the Mandir Hindu temple in Lilburn, which I hear is welcoming, and very educational. Here is the website if you are interested in their hours, events, and appropriate attire: http://www.baps.org/Global-Network/North-America/Atlanta.aspx.
You must attend and participate in this event within this summer session. That is to insure that you have enough details and accuracy in your memory of the event. So, writing on a cultural experience from last year doesn’t count. You have a different frame of reference since you are attending this cultural experience for this class.
Within the paper these five questions must be answered 1. Describe the cultural experience in detail.
- How was this cultural experience different from what you are familiar with?
- Where there any procedures or activities in which you felt uncomfortable? If so, what did you do?
- How was this cultural experience similar to what you have experienced (i.e., either growing up or recently)?
- How has your background and upbringing influenced your impression of this experience?
