Paper instructions:
Would you agree that we are all learners?
With that in mind, let us remember that we always like to know just how we are doing in the world of learning. Are we doing well or poorly? Do we need someone else to tell us if we are succeeding or can we assess our progress ourselves?
This brings us back to the topic of self-regulated learners. We cannot be self-regulated if we cannot assess ourselves and our progress toward a goal or objective.
Self-assessment is key to student success and success in the assessments given in class or on standardized tests that measure the success of students towards a learning goal for a particular grade level.
Rubrics are the tools of self-assessment.Rubrics are used at all levels of education, starting with preschool and continuing through to the graduate level. This may be new to you, but every day teachers are measured by rubrics, instead of being measured against another in class or at school. You should be doing your best, not someone else’s best.
In this discussion please choose a subject and grade level to be taught, stipulate a goal or objective, and then devise a rubric for students to rate themselves on their progress towards that goal. Some of you may have created your own rubrics already. The video below may be a help to you in this discussion.
