Description

In this discussion, you will be debating the pros and cons of using project crashing. Your position for the debate will be determined by your last name:

 IN FAVOR

Last names beginning with A through L will argue in favor of using project crashing.

AGAINST (according to my name: I would have to chose against)

Last names beginning with M through Z will argue against using project crashing.

NOTE: The position you have been assigned may not agree with your viewpoint or opinion. Debating the viewpoint you disagree with can help broaden your understanding.

Research: Begin by researching the concept of project crashing.

Using this method, project managers can reduce the project schedule by applying additional resources to activities on the critical path – with the goal of reducing the schedule as much as possible while minimizing costs.

Determine which side you are to argue based on the first letter of your last name. Last names beginning with A through L will argue in favor of using project crashing. Last names beginning with M through Z will argue against using project crashing.

Write: Referring to your research, post your argument for your side of the debate Start your message with either “IN FAVOR” or “AGAINST” so that your classmates will know which side you are arguing.

Use the following questions to guide your response. (MAX: 250 WORDS)

  • Should project crashing be considered a good thing to attempt in most projects, or should it be avoided? Why or why not?
  • If a project could be reduced by adding additional funding – why wouldn’t the original schedule be reduced from the very beginning of the project?
  • Given the trade-off between scope, schedule, and budget, the project duration could also be reduced by reducing the project scope. Which is better? Attempting to reduce a project schedule by adding resources to critical activities or by reducing project scope? Why?
