Essays: Two of the following questions will appear on the exam. You will select one and only one of those two questions and answer it in a clear, organized, and detailed essay of 2-3 paragraphs. Your essay will be worth up to 150 points.
- Why did the Inuit do well in Greenland, and why did the Norse abandon their colonies there?
- What benefits did Pueblo Indians expect to receive if they became Christians? Why did they later revolt against the Spanish?
- What were the biggest differences between Indian slavery in the Southeast and Indian slavery in the Southwest?
Possible extra-credit questions (each worth up to 25 points):
- Why does Christopher Columbus have a bad reputation among Native Americans?
- What goods did the Hurons trade with the Ojibwas and the French in their three-way trading system?
Note: If you answer a question which does not appear on the exam, you will receive zero points for that question.
