There are two parts to the Discussion Question Assignment (Part I and Part II).

Part I:  Please respond to A and B.

For full points include at least one example (one that is not included in the text).

I want to hear how you are processing the information.  Imagine you are explaining to your best friend.

A. Review Questions:

Respond to one of the Review Questions from the end of Chapter 7.

B. Choose one of the following questions:  (Let us know which question it is you are responding to as well).

#1 and 2 are related to Meacham’s statement that enacted laws are seldom explicit enough to completely guide how they are implemented. They tend to be written on the vague side.

1. What would the effect of having poorly written or vague rules be on the implementation of the policy?

Have you had a new policy implemented at your work that was poorly thought out or written up too vague, and that made it difficult to implement?

2. What would the effect of having incredibly dialed-in rules on the implementation of the policy?

Have you ever seen a new or revised policy implemented that was written so incredibly tight that it ended up causing problems because it was too restrictive and didn’t leave any room for accommodating practical issues that come up?

3. What are some ways the Judicial branch influences policy in the Implementation Phase?

4. Which of the following “forms of policy” is the Dept of Health and Human Services involved with during Policy Implementation? Explain why too!  Hint: More than one may apply:

Writing rules and regulations,

Making operational decisions,

Making judicial decisions

Part II:

Ask the group a question related to the material we are covering this week: Is there one concept or topic that grabs your attention? What question could you ask to explore a concept from a more “critical” perspective–to dig deeper?
