Solved: Ethics Discussion

This week’s focus will be on how deontology, utilitarianism, and virtue ethics would
approach a specific real-world scenario and which approach we find more convincing.
Objectives
This activity is designed to support the following Learning Objectives:

  • Appraise philosophical methods with the use of appropriate philosophical
terms to exhibit an appreciation of the issues studied.
  • Assess and articulate ideas about philosophical issues.
  • Evaluate philosophical arguments, methods and assumptions for consistency,
relevance, and truth consistent with the principles of formal and informal
    logic.
    Instructions
    Part One: Initial Post
In a post at least 250 words in length, please respond to the following prompt:
  • Think about an ethical issue that may come up either in the workplace, at
school, or at home (this can be a real situation you have experienced or some
hypothetical situation that could come up). Explain the issue, then explain how
a deontologist would try to fix it and why, how a utilitarian would try to fix it
and why, and how a virtue ethicist would try to fix it and why. Given your
response, which of these two theories do you find more compelling and why?
  • You will need to integrate two quotes from the course readings to help
support your discussion. These quotes must be smoothly integrated in a way
that is relevant to the rest of your discussion; there should be no dropped
quotes in your post. Also, keep quotes at no more than 25% of your discussion
in any single post. Quotes are an important way to support your points, but
they should be used to do exactly that – support. They should not be used as a
replacement for your discussion. Failing to integrate two quotes into your
initial post will result in a zero in that section of the assignment.
  • Note!!! – Now that I am now allowing you to review other submissions before
posting your own, you cannot choose an issue that has already been discussed
in previous posts. If you do, your post will earn a zero. You must discuss an
original ethical issue in response to the prompt above.
Initial post is due by Wednesday, April 24 at 11:59 pm and should be at least 250 words
    each.
    Part Two: Peer Responses
Respond to two other people in the discussion board. Each of these responses should be
at least 100 words in length and should critically engage with your peer’s analysis. As
always, I encourage everyone to voice their opinions on these topics, but be sure to
remain respectful of other viewpoints while doing so in order to maintain a productive
    learning environment.
Peer responses (2) are due by Sunday, April 28 at 11:59 pm and should be at least 100
    words each.
    Additional Requirements
In addition to the requirements above, your post needs to
  • Don’t worry about including a title page/header (just go directly into your
post), but quotes, summaries, and paraphrases do need to be cited correctly
and you must include a Works Cited listing all used sources in MLA formatting
    standards
  • Be proofread for mechanical issues (grammar and spelling, typos, etc.)
  • Maintain respectful and academically appropriate language. You do not need
to sound like an encyclopedia (I know I certainly don’t!) and I do not want you
to suppress your personalities, but be sure to avoid things like text-speak or
cursing. Also, please review the following link for a reminder on respectful
    interaction online
    o Netiquette
