Christianity contains fundamental philosophical ideas that lead to freedom, liberty, and equality. Whether we live consistently toward those principles is a related, but distinct matter. In a contrast of ideas, philosophical naturalism (that reality is composed of only what is natural, such as matter and the laws of physics and chemistry) paired with Darwinian evolution may lead to terrible implications–for there is no foundation for objective morality, moral obligation, human value, and so on. While philosophical circles in the United States had been imbibing philosophical naturalism for some time, the broader culture ran into its implications in Europe during WWII.
