BACKGROUND:
Arguably, emerging technologies have the potential to offer business
value to entities by enabling increased capabilities and allowing for
greater opportunities.
For organizations, digital transformation includes leveraging the
technology to advance the entity’s business needs and to remain viable.
With the level of dynamic shifts within businesses, seen for example with
the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, organizations are required to be
responsive and to pivot to meet and manage changes that may be
presented, while ensuring that the environment created meets the
requirements and changing needs of theirstakeholders. Technologies and
environments can be adopted and implemented to meet the different
and specific needs of a business or entity. This however is not without its
set of challenges.

In Modules 1 and 2 of the course, we looked at Literature Review – its purpose and how it is
conducted.
Information presented within a research paper must be substantiated by current literature. In
order to state conclusions, or understand the implications of research, you must first start with
an understanding of what is known about the topic you are interested in studying.
A literature review not only summarizes, but synthesizes, the knowledge that is gained through
published research. By comparing and contrasting current literature, you (as the researcher) can
determine an important topic, but also what can be learned from further research.
Further to the background presented above, you have been given a Broad Topic – you are
expected to CREATE A NARROW TOPIC. This Narrow Topic will be based on the selections
made and the direction your paper will take and will serve as the topic for your Literature Review.
The guidelines for completing the Literature Review are to:

  1. Generate a narrow (more focused) research topic based on the broad topic identified above.
    a. Ensure that your narrow topic relates to the broad topic presented and is refined
    to focus on specific aspect(s) of the area to be discussed.
  2. Identify eight (8) sources/articles related to your narrow topic.
    a. These sources/articles should have substantial relevance to your topic
  3. Produce a review of these sources/articles in the form of a Literature Review, by
    summarizing the findings and conclusions, and synthesizing the implications of this
    research with respect to your topic.
    The articles listed below may be useful in assisting you in completing your Literature Review:

    Your LITERATURE REVIEW should:
    a) Be completed using the narrowed topic selected (this topic must be related to the broad topic
    above).
    b) Cite at least eight (8) articles as the main sources (additional articles may also be referenced).
    c) Include a Title Page (APA style).
    d) Contain no more than 10 to 12 pages [excluding Title and Reference Page(s)].
    e) Adhere to the APA style of formatting for the entire paper (including references). Refer to
    Purdue OWL and other sources for further guidance relating to the APA format.
    This includes (but is not limited to):
  • Font Size: 12 pts
  • Font Type: Times New Roman
  • Line Spacing: Double
    f) Follow the Literature Review outline listed below (on page 6).
    g) Include a body/discussion section that does NOT merely summarise the articles; but rather
    provides a body/discussion section that critically evaluates the articles, integrates the findings
    of several papers, synthesizes the findings to the extent possible, and determines where
    there is agreement among papers versus where there are contrasting findings, etc.
  • It is not possible to prescribe how you should structure/arrange your sources. As
    outlined on page 6, you should first organise your sources in themes/sub-titles and
    then group them where they relate. Note that a source, for example, may span one
    or more themes/sub-titles; each component within your body/discussion will
    therefore vary (see page 6 for further details).
    h) Be submitted as a Microsoft® Word document. The document should be named
    MGMT6000_LiteratureReview_YourID#.
    i) Be uploaded to the Turn-It-In FINAL DROP BOX labelled Assignment #2 – Literature Review
    by Sunday, March 31, 2024 at 11:55 pm (EC time).

    j) ASSESSMENT: Your submission will be assessed using the rubric below.
    k) PENALTIES FOR LATE SUBMISSIONS:
  • Assignments are to be submitted on time to facilitate grading.

    five per cent (5%) of the total marks will be deducted for each day (or part thereof) that
    the assignment is late, for a maximum of 4 days.
  • Where it is accepted that mitigating or extenuating circumstances prevented the early
    submission, the penalties may be waived for the assignment that has been affected. In
    such cases, evidence must be provided to support the claim of mitigating circumstances.
  • Requests detailing any mitigating or extenuating circumstances, along with evidence,
    should be submitted to the Course Coordinator for consideration, prior to the due date.

    PLAGIARISM
  • The Literature Review submitted must be your own work. All sources of information and
    material used are to be fully identified and properly acknowledged, as required.
  • Additionally, the work presented must not have been submitted for any other
    assessment, whether in this course or otherwise.
  • You are encouraged to ensure that the SIMILARITY INDEX returned by Turn-It-In is
    no more than 15% for the Literature Review Submission.
    o Ideally, you want to achieve a low Similarity Index.
    o A high Similarity Index may be returned where words are copied from another
    source (whether intentionally or otherwise), without proper punctuation and
    citation, or where there is improper paraphrasing of the source material.
    o The Similarity Index report will be reviewed in detail (regardless of the
    percentage). Papers showing strong similarities to other works/sources will be
    cited for suspicion of plagiarism.
    o Where there is evidence of suspected plagiarism, the matter will be referred to
    the relevant Campus Co-ordinator, as a case of suspected plagiarism. Where such
    a report is made, the student’s grade for the assignment will be withheld until a
    decision in respect of the report made, has been communicated by the University.
    In such a case, the comments from the Facilitator to the affected student in
    respect of this assignment will be:
    “Your submission has been referred as a case of suspected
    plagiarism. The grade for this assessment has therefore
    been withheld until the University advises on how we
    should proceed.”

    Outline for Literature Review
    NOTE: Before you begin writing, sort your articles into different themes/sub-titles based on the
    articles’ findings/results or common themes/issues.
    Introduction
    Write an introductory paragraph for the literature review paper. This paragraph should:
    a) state the topic and inquiry questions for this review;
    b) explain the objectives of the literature review;
    c) provide background information that introduces the relevance of your topic within the
    chosen industry/field;
    d) provide the reader with a sense of the structure of the literature review; for example,
    briefly mention how the articles were sorted in terms of common themes based on
    findings/results.
    Body/Discussion
    The names of the sorted articles (themes) will become your headings for each of the paragraphs
    that will form a part of the body of the literature review. The body will include:
    a. Theme/Sub-Title 1: paragraphs that describe the first theme/sub-title that you
    identified and compare, contrast and/or connect the articles you’ve selected.
    Example: First point on this theme/sub-title ..… Brown, et al (2013); etc
    Second point on this theme/sub-title ..… Doe, et al (2014); etc
    b. Theme/Sub-Title 2: paragraphs that describe the first theme/sub-title that you
    identified and compare, contrast and/or connect the articles you’ve selected.
    Example: First point on this theme/sub-title ..… James, et al (2010); etc
    Second point on this theme/sub-title ..… Campbell, et al (2015); etc
    c. … …
    … …
    Conclusion
    Briefly summarizes the main findings from the articles reviewed and indicate how the inquiry
    questions (noted in the introduction) were answered or not answered. Are there any gaps? Any
    future research needs?
    References
    Contains a listing of all references mentioned in the paper using the APA style of formatting
