Instructions:
This assignment has 2 parts. Your first task is to complete at least one of the two Hootsuite course modules
and submit your Hootsuite certificate(s). While you are working on these certifications, you will create an
imaginary company – which brings us to part 2 of this project. Part 2 is Hootsuite company social media
(creating a Hootsuite dashboard for your company). Please find details for each of these tasks below.
TASKS:
TASK A) Hootsuite Test – 100 marks = xx/10%

  1. Watch a short YouTube video, “How to Use Hootsuite in 13 Minutes” at
    https://youtu.be/Ztk6PXD1EjU created in 2020.
  2. Complete the Hootsuite Platform training. Login instructions were provided by your professor
    in email, https://education.hootsuite.com Then, complete the Hootsuite Platform certification
    course and/or the Social Marketing certification course. You will need to submit ONE of these
    certifications to the dropbox. If you do both, choose the higher score. If you have done one of
    these in the past year, you may use that certificate to fulfil this part of the assignment.
  3. Use the coupon code provided with your Hootsuite Academy account and do not enter any
    credit card information. These two courses are free and so are the certification tests.

  4. A test score of 70% is required for Hootsuite certification. For purposes of the course you are
    not required to obtain 70% but the grade you obtain will be the grade recorded. Students
    seeking certification may decide to take the test again at a later date in the even they do not
    obtain certification on the first attempt.
  5. SUBMIT: Take a Screen Capture of the Hootsuite TEST SCORE Congratulations page (as below)
    which is displayed at the end of the test. This shows your name as logged in, the training you
    completed, the date of the test, the score on the test. Ensure your name and test score are is
    clearly visible. Use CTRL+PrntScrn keys to take a screen capture or use the snipping tool (a
    phone image is not a screen capture). Paste the screen capture into a Word document and save
    the file as “Hootsuite Assignment Part A” (without the quotation marks).

    TASK B) Hootsuite Tasks—xx/36 marks = xx/10%
    Imagine that you are an entrepreneur who just started a business (e.g., College Student Tutoring business,
    Food Truck business, Dog Walking business, Catering business, Restaurant, Shipping, etc.). You will create
    a PowerPoint slide deck to submit this part of the assignment. Refer to Submit instructions below. Refer to
    rubric under Assessments, Rubrics in eCentennial.
  6. Create a company name for your business as you will use it within your company’s social media
    networks. Ensure the name is representative of what your company does, offers, or believes in.
    Conduct research on the best practices in creating a “good” company name. “AAA” is not a
    good name. Envision a business concept (what your company does) and ensure the name
    relates to this concept.
    Create a company logo and use it within your social media. Ensure the logo represents your
    company. Research “best practices for designing company logos”. You may use PowerPoint to
    create logos, Paint, Photo Shop, or any other software you wish. Be aware of intellectual
    property rights (you cannot use a logo that another company owns). Similar to icons, logos and
    wordmarks must be instantly recognizable. When designing your company logo, take your time.
    Consider colour, shape, and potential cost of reproduction as well. What are some logos you
    know that are instantly recognizable? Check out this YouTube video on what makes a great
    logo.
    Provide a company description, what the company sells and to which target market. Explain why
    you decided upon this company name and logo (e.g., research, thoughts, experience, etc.)

  7. Create a TAB in your Hootsuite Dashboard for Twitter and entitle the tab, “Twitter Company
    Name” where Company Name is the name of your company. Add TWO Streams for Twitter
    using the option buttons available. Ensure information appears within each stream, if not, you
    may need to act as a customer and make some tweets (simulate real business scenarios).
    Add ONE Keyword search stream (a third stream) under Twitter using multiple words. Search
    for something your company would want to monitor.
    Explain what each of the three streams is doing for the company. (6 marks, streams and explanation)

  8. Create a second TAB for a social platform of your choice. Select a platform where you think
    your customers will be. Name the tab the social network name and company name, as above.
    Add TWO Streams for this social network using the option buttons available. Ensure
    information appears within each stream, if not, you may need to act as a customer and make
    some posts (simulate real business scenarios).
    Explain what each of the two streams is doing for the company. (6 marks, streams and
    explanation) Example below.
  9. Schedule a Post to ONE social platform through Hootsuite. In this scheduled post, advertise an
    upcoming event or promotion and include a photo as well as a URL Link. Shorten the link
    with owl.ly. The link should be to something that supports what you are saying. The post should
    be relevant to your company and its customers. Use professional business language and make the
    situation as close to real business as possible. Explain what the schedule post is supposed to do for your
    company. (6 marks, scheduled post and explanation) Example below.

  10. Add ONE free app in Hootsuite for one of Google Drive or Microsoft One Drive or Dropbox (note you
    will need to an account for one of these Cloud platforms). Post a document to the drive which will be
    used in the next step. Explain how this app might be used to increase efficiency and consistency in
    customer service. (6 marks, posted document and explanation) Example below.
  11. Post ONE reply to a customer through Hootsuite to either social platform. You may need to post as
    a customer a question or complaint that the company can reply to and attach a document to the reply.
    The company answer will include mention of the attachment which the customer can refer to. Attach
    or link to a stored Cloud document. You will need to create the Cloud document first (see step
    above) then you will need to post a customer query/question and make a company response to the
    customer within Hootsuite. Use professional business language and make the situation as close to a real
    business situation as possible. (6 marks) Example below.

  12. SUBMIT: Create a PowerPoint presentation entitled, “Social Media Assignment Part B”. Include
    the following slides (you may insert additional slides as needed):
  • Slide 1 Title Slide: CRM Social Media Assignment for MGMT223, Your name, student number.
    (no marks added, but if missing 2 marks will be deducted)
  • Slides 2-3 (use one or two slides as needed): Company name and logo, a description of your company,
    what it does, and how it differs from competitors. Explain why you decided upon this company name
    and logo (e.g., research, thoughts, experience, etc.)(6 marks)
  • Slides 4-5: Screen capture of your Company Twitter Dashboard – 3 Streams. Explain what each search is
    doing in Twitter and how this helps your company. (6 marks)
  • Slides 6-7: Screen capture of your Other Social Media Dashboard – 2 Streams. Explain what each search
    is doing in this Dashboard and how this helps your company. (6 marks)
  • Slides 8-9 (use one or two slides as needed): Screen capture of your scheduled post (advertisement).
    Ensure it is scheduled for a future date, includes a shortened link, and a photo. Explain what the
    schedule post is supposed to do for your company. (6 marks)
  • Slides 10-11: Screen capture of the free app (online drive) you added showing the document you
    uploaded. Explain how this app might be used to increase efficiency and consistency in customer
    service. (6 marks)
  • Slide 12: Screen capture of the customer post you made (as a customer), and your reply post to the
    customer (from the company) showing that you attached a document from the free app you added
    (above). (6 marks)
    Submit in ONE PowerPoint presentation file to the eCentennial Dropbox .
